Hunkapi’s horses are the life of our program. They give tirelessly every day of the year. They don’t take vacations or get paid overtime. Instead they touch numerous lives through our horseback riding lessons, therapeutic riding programs and our other services. Unfortunately, our horses cannot live on our unlimited supply of unconditional love alone. We are always in need of more hay and grains to feed the herd. To keep our horses healthy and happy they need regular visits from the veterinarian and daily nutritional supplements. Each of our hard working horses has to have their shoes tended to by a farrier to protect their hooves through sessions each day. The equipment we use; such as halters, bridles and fly masks, need to periodically be replaced as well. Daily use takes its toll!
Each member of the herd has a Horse Angel that is committed to providing their horse with the extra love, care and financial support that the herd deserves. Not only are Horse Angels caregivers, they are fundraisers too! They act as their particular horse's voice and work to share their story with their friends, family and the community.
